HOOE STOOLBALL CLUB INFORMATION, CONTACT AND FIXTURES.
The sport of Stoolball dates to at least the 15th century, and it originated in Sussex, and may be an ancestor of cricket, baseball, softball, and rounders. There is evidence to suggest that it was played as a tradition by milkmaids who used their milking stools as a wicket, and the bittle, or milk bowl as a bat, hence its archaic name of bittle-battle. It is considered as Sussex National Sport, is officially recognised as a sport by the Sports Council and is run by Stoolball England, which is recognised as the governing body by Sport England.

On Tuesday 4th November Hooe Stoolball Club held their annual end of season dinner at the Red Lion. We had a very enjoyable evening with some great food and much laughter (good job we were upstairs!) At the end of the meal we shared the statistics for the season, which were much improved on last year - we won 5 matches from 17 played against some very good teams. We also presented trophies for the players with the most runs, wickets and catches in both mixed and ladies matches. (Photos below)Most runs: (men) Jack Keeley (ladies) Jo DrylandMost Wickets: (men) Stephen Thompson (ladies) Jo DrylandMost catches: (men) Tobias Leader (who unfortunately couldn't be there) (ladies) Mel Dowling.
